You’ll find a story in this week’s I-R about new leadership in the local Democratic Party. The Ellsworth County Republicans also have new officers. Leland Francis, a retired teacher and coach from Wilson, is now chairman. He replaces Rob Fillion, former executive director of the Smoky Hill Economic Development Corporation. Fillion now lives in Wichita. Vice-chairman is Mary Jo Huseman, who has been active in Republican politics for many years.

Speaking of politics — Ellsworth County residents will have several opportunities to ask questions of their elected representatives. There is a story on Page A1, but in case you missed it:
Two legislative coffees are planned Saturday, April 6, in Ellsworth County with Rep. Steven Johnson, R-Assaria. Johnson will be in Wilson at 8:30 a.m. at Grandma’s Soda Shop. He will be joined by Rep. Troy Waymaster, a Russell County Republican. Johnson will be in Ellsworth at 10:30 a.m. at the Ellsworth Antique Mall. First District Congressman Roger Marshall is expected to attend. State Sen. Richard Wilborn had planned to attend, however, a family illness may keep him away. Both coffees are open to the public. In addition to the coffees, Rep. Tom Sawyer, minority leader of the Kansas House, will speak at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Ellsworth Steakhouse. It also is open to the public.

It’s April and just about everyone I know is celebrating the warmer days. Now if we could just do something about the wind ... Have a good rest of the week.
