The Grab & Go Summer Lunch Program started Monday, June 1, and will continue Mondays through Fridays with the exception of holidays.
Serving time in Ellsworth will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon at Ellsworth Junior-Senior High School. Participants should drive through, the same as they did during the March through May school program.
Serving time at Kanopolis will be from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Community Center.
Volunteers are needed, including to help prepare and pack meals from 9:45 to 11 a.m. at the main preparation site in Wilson. E-mail Deanna Cunningham at first.umcew@eaglecom.net

This past weekend in Salina, several hundred protesters marched peacefully through downtown, many of them carrying signs in support of Black Lives Matter and other individuals and organizations that work to promote equality without regard to skin color or economic status.
More than 800 miles away, in my former home of Fort Wayne, Ind., the protests continued for days and became unruly at times. At one point, authorities cleared out downtown restaurants and other businesses as a safety precaution.
Those of us in Ellsworth may feel as if we’re millions of miles from the unrest in other parts of the country. But that’s not true.
Injustice, in any form or place, concerns us all, including the leaders we elect to make this a better country for everyone.

The Independent-Reporter office continues to be closed, mostly as a precaution against the coronavirus. Am I the only one who feels like 2020 has already lasted at least a decade?
