Marquette residents celebrated the town’s 145th anniversary this past weekend. It was a fun couple of days with plenty to do. Like most other small town parties, the event was organized by volunteers. Same as Fort Harker at Kanopolis. And Wilson’s After Harvest Czech Festival. And Cowtown Days at Ellsworth. The best way to thank them is to donate time to next year’s celebration. Or, in the case of Marquette, to the next celebration in five years. That’s when the Swedish community will celebrate 150 years.

Or speaking up when we suspect a problem. It’s going to take a combination of efforts. We have always been able to find a way. Do we have the will?
