Letter to the Editor:

I am mystified that someone at the county commissioners’ meeting claimed to have a “God-given right to be irresponsible”.

First, that is a hedonistic belief, not a Christian one, as being irresponsible is a sin according to James 4:17. The Bible is filled with commandments, laws, parables and admonishments for us to be responsible and accountable, not just for ourselves but others, too.

Second, we need to determine the definition of a right. I believe having the ability to do something doesn’t make it a right.

I doubt a careless employee which cost a business money could claim a God-given right to do so.

Those of us who can remember when corporal punishment was acceptable would never have told a parent who was correcting our behavior “I have a God-given right to be irresponsible” unless we wanted to end up on our butt wondering what train hit us.

Being irresponsible when we are dealing with a pandemic is disrespectful of others and betrays a lack of awareness of something greater than yourself.

We are all so worried about our Rights! Rights! Rights! Rights! Sounds like a bunch of cry babies. Boohoo! You sound like this is the second week of covid, we are now nine months in this mess. The virus is the enemy, not each other or a mask. Why are we not coming together to fight this deadly virus. Thank God, that we haven’t had more deaths here, in Ellsworth.

How many of you have gotten a flu shot or/and wear a seat belt in your car? Do you do it because you care about your health and safety? So why, in God’s name, are we letting a virus win? You say you don’t know what to believe about mask wearing? (”There is misinformation going around:’) Oh! Please, it has been proved that mask wearing can slow the spread of a virus. Nothing is 100 percent, not even your flu shot.

Have we, all of the sudden, stopped believing in our doctors? You think that they get a bonus, for every covid case Yes, they are all Billionaires.

What is a mask? (A covering made of fiber or gauze and fitting over the nose and mouth to protect against dust or air pollutants, or made of sterile gauze and worn to prevent the infection of the wearer.) I found this definition on the internet and we all know that if it is on the internet, then it has to be true.

I have a theory as to why some people don’t want to wear a mask. You don’t want to smell your own bad breath. Mints and gum can help with that. You’re welcome!

Seriously, be grateful that you are not working in a hospital and HAVE to wear a mask for hours, or waiting to hear an update about your loved one sick with covid and praying that they will win the fight for their life.

So, what is SO hard to understand about wearing a mask, out in public spaces? Do you want to protect yourself, to keep our local businesses open? The virus doesn’t care about what political party you pick, where you were born, how much money you have and, DEFINITELY, not your Rights. It only cares about destroying your life. Don’t give covid an easy target. Let us work together to STOP it.

I believe in doing what I can to protect myself and my neighbors. I consider you a neighbor and worth protecting.

I would like to say a big Thank You to Al of our local businesses for being here, to make our lives better, here in Ellsworth.

Let us all, thank our doctors, medical staff and support staff, for putting their lives at risk, to keep us healthy. THANK YOU! Where would we be without those brave souls? (I hope we never find out!)

I want it to be known, that the above, is solely my opinion. Right or wrong. If it made you mad, Good! Now use that anger to fight covid, not your neighbors.

I am, just as tired as the rest of you, with covid and this year. I wish I had the power to make covid go away, but I don’t. I have to go to Jesus for the strength to get through each day. My hope comes from Jesus.

Ellsworth unite — Do NOT let covid win!

Thank you,

Joy Adcock
