Beyond city council’s rejection of goat plan in Wilson

By

“Wilson rejects goal plan” by Alan Rusch. Alan did his typical good job covering the Wilson City Council meeting; however, I would like to add a few details.

The motion I made that was mentioned was for a provisional waiver; it has six provisions and could have been withdrawn if they were not met. The provisions included:

• Location West end of 26 St., approx. three blocks West of main street.

• Only Nigerian Dwarf Goats without horns allowed.

• Area required 1,500 sq. ft per goat (10 times the current ordinance).

• Goat fence required 4 ft. min.

• Recommended vaccinations must be current (tetnus, rabies, CDT/aterotoxemia).

• Waiver reviewed in one year to determine waiver will be provided.

The intention as any time any of these provisions was not met the provisional waiver could be rescinded.

The City was not being asked for money, the entrepreneur was risking all the capital and time.

All Wilson business owners risk capital and time and deserve credit for it, but we sure could use another entrepreneur and possible employer.

It has been said we should vote the way our constituents would; I know how the people at City Hall that night wanted us to vote, but they did not represent the whole town, and the loudest voice in the room is not always the right one. The voters who elected me to USD 328 years ago and the Wilson City Council (twice) knew I would use my own judgment on occasion.

Yes, Wilson rejected the goat plan and maybe more.

Sincerely

Chuck Crawford
