Don’t give up, Wilson
To the Wilson residents —
Several years ago, your Wilson USD 112 board members voted to close the high school at Bushton. We didn’t hear any comments from you how sorry you were that we lost our ONLY school in Bushton. We weren’t fortunate to still have our K-6 in Bushton, as you still do.
Now, “the tables are turned” and you are experiencing our feelings. Now you are upset at losing your 7-12 grades, but you don’t look back to see what you have done to another town.
We have pushed past aside — although it still hurts tremendously — and are looking to the future. We are and continue to make good use of our building to the betterment of our community.
A number of our area students have transferred to other neighboring schools. I would hope your students will take the same opportunity and not give Claflin the satisfaction of having all your students at Central Plains.
A comment was made about “transporting students down roads that aren’t maintained.” We travel to Wilson frequently on the paved road from K-4 to Wilson. That is a wonderful secondary road. It seems to be well maintained.
In the end, Claflin is working to get full control over the whole USD 112 area. They are still pushing to get a whole new K-12 facility that they would run. I hope it never goes through and they realize they closed two very capable buildings, instead of spending millions of dollars for another building,
Don’t give up Wilson. Bushton hasn’t!
We found a way of benefitting our community through the closure of our school. Take time and look for new possibilities.
