Kid Scoop is for all ages

Dear Editor Bonar, I enjoyed the tutorial on Roman numerals in the Kid Scoop section of your Jan. 4 issue. I learned Latin nearly 70 years ago at Fort Hays State University. Throughout the years, I’ve used a convenient mnemonic to assist me: “If Victor’s X-ray Looks Clear, Don’t Medicate.”

I grew up at Bunker Hill, Wilson and Dorrance and enjoy your newspaper.

Sincerely, Larry Heffel Lenexa

Students ramping up for FFA week Dear students, parents and supporters of the Ellsworth FFA, We would like to announce this year’s National FFA Week events which will take place from Feb. 20-25.

The FFA officers have an exciting and fun week planned and hope you will be able to participate in some of our events!

Feb. 15 — FFA dodgeball tournament — All students and community members are welcome to participate in the dodgeball tournament at the EJSHS gym. Games will start at 6 p.m.

Feb. 19 — FFA Skating Fun Night and meeting — We will be traveling to the Hutchinson skating rink. FFA students will have a blast with skating games. We will leave at 5:30 p.m. and be back at 10 p.m.

Feb. 20 — The mobile dairy lab will be visiting all three schools. Special thanks to a Southwest Dairy Farmers grant which supplied milk to our football team.

Feb. 20 — The FFA will be partnering with the USDA Commodities Distribution. We will be sorting and boxing food for those in need.

Feb. 20 — FFA members will work with Kanopolis Middle School math teachers to host Budget Day. This experience will allow students to go through a mock budgeting experience where they will get to choose a job and pay all their bills.

Feb. 21 — FFA Ag Awareness Day — On this day, FFA students will be going to Ellsworth Elementary School and KMS to share about a topic in agriculture, like how plants grow, life cycles of animals and more. This will take place during the school day. In addition, the FFA is hosting a coloring contest for children in kindergarten to second grades.

Feb. 22 — Community Breakfast Feed — From 5-7:30 p.m., members will serve breakfast to community members in the shop, so come in and enjoy a good meal.

Feb. 23 — FFA pizza party — FFA members participating in at least three FFA Week events will be invited to a pizza party during lunch.

Feb. 24 — North Central District Meats CDE — Hosted by the Ellsworth FFA.

March 7 — FFA Work Auction — Doors will open to the Commons for silent auction bidding at 5:45 p.m. Starting at 6:15 p.m., we will have a meal, then auction off FFA members for eight hours of work. Any community member is encouraged to come support us in this fundraising effort. Come enjoy this social event with friends and family.

FFA member awards — FFA members doing at least three FFA Week activities will be invited to an FFA luncheon in the ag room. FFA members doing at least two FFA Week activities will get a brand new FFA T-shirt.

Students should be listening to announcements for more ways to be involved and opportunities to win prizes for your class and yourself.

Community members, check out our Ellsworth FFA Facebook page for opportunities to get FFA gear, get involved and learn more about your local chapter.

We hope to see you during FFA Week, and thank you for being great supporters!

Sincerely, Ellsworth FFA Officer Team
