Pausing to identify progress around Ellsworth County

Progress.
Once a year, we at the newspaper pause to look around and take stock. What’s happened? What’s new? What’s different? Even, what’s the same?
We ask ourselves these questions, we showcase what could often be overlooked in Ellsworth County.
This is to remind us that even in our rural corner of Kansas, things are happening. Growth happens.
Sometimes growth is in big ways, such as was reported a few weeks ago from the Grow Ellsworth County banquet. Other times, it’s less obvious. It can be as simple as a multigenerational farm and ranch operation.
It can even be as simple as a new van to help transport residents throughout the county.
Have we captured every ounce of progress?
It seems unlikely we could achieve such a lofty goal.
Yet, we like to pause, take stock and see what’s going on around us. We have a lot to look forward to. We have an incoming superintendent for USD 327. We recently welcomed a new police chief for Ellsworth.
It could be easy to look around and see “sleepy” rural communities in Ellsworth County. We challenge you to look harder and see the continued hard work happening all around us.
