Hello Ellsworth County!

Today I wanted to write a short letter to the editor in support of our democratic institutions. One institution we rarely discuss are our politicians and future politicians. While there have been a few really bad apples through the years, most people who seek public office do so to serve and to make a difference. We can all laugh at some of the failures and blunders, but let’s also celebrate some of the heroism and sacrifice we have witnessed through the years.

How should we support them? Well, I am glad you asked! We can support them financially (of course), but I bet they would be just as happy with a thumbs up while driving by their campaign table. A simple smile is also a great budget friendly option. Another possibility would be to attend the forum at the Ellsworth Steak House on July 17. You could listen to the candidates and congratulate both of them for a job well done.

It is very simple. If we support people who run for office, more people will then choose to run for office. This is a healthy component needed for democracies to flourish. As we head into the home stretch of the 2022 campaign, let’s do our best to cheer on our politicians. Even if we don’t agree with every policy, we can appreciate the sacrifice and effort they are giving to our community, state and nation.
