Easter Sunday offers hope in uncertain times
Editor’s Note — This editorial appeared a year ago in an Indiana newspaper. We think it is more relevant now than it was then.
While Easter Sunday is a Christian holy day, its message rings true for all who believe in human redemption and the renewal of life.
The story of Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead reflects the ideal that man through faith can overcome even death and find salvation. This beautiful image offers hope to all, for all ultimately face death — our own and those of the ones we love.
You don’t have to look far in Madison County to see the bold signs that life springs from death, that life finds a way to overcome.
Buds burst from branches that had been bare, vivid flowers grace the formerly barren landscape, chicks hatch from eggs that had not existed just weeks before, and the farmer’s crops emerge from soil that had lain fallow.
Whether you are a Christian or of another faith or are not religious at all, Easter Sunday does offer salvation, pointing to new life — and the power and energy to reshape our own.
While New Year’s traditionally sparks resolutions for life changes large and small, Easter offers its own chance for a reset.
The promise of a fresh start, with spring blooming all around, should fill our hearts with hope and embolden us to search for new horizons, to commune with nature and to be a friend to our fellow man.
Christians believe that Jesus died on the cross to save all of us and that his resurrection represents the ultimate victory of life over death.
That tiding of salvation through faith is the essence of hope, regardless of our religious beliefs and affiliations. May your hope spring eternal this Easter Sunday.
