Board approves Ellsworth’s TIF district

The USD 327 Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo school district board of education voted to support the City of Ellsworth in its proposed Redevelopment TIF District.

That decision came at the regular school board meeting Dec. 9 at the district office.

The proposed Redevelopment District expansion includes areas throughout the city with the highest possibility of being developed in the near future. Superintendent Dale Brungardt advised the board if they took no action on the matter, it would count as approval after the 30 day waiting period is up.

After board member Gina McGowan said she felt it would be better to make a motion, board member Darin Holecek said everyone is working towards the same goal.

“We’re not just trying to make the school district better but trying to make the town better, the county better. If we think we want to support it, it’s better to make it official,” he said.

McGowan then made the motion that “we concur with the City of Ellsworth with regard to the potential long term benefits, to both the City and Unified School District No. 327, of its proposed Redevelopment District and that the Board not oppose or take any action to oppose the City’s revised Redevelopment District plan.” The vote to approve was unanimous.

The next meeting of the USD 327 board of education will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at the district office.
