The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team competed against the Lyons Lions Dec. 6, losing 55-32. The game started out on a horrible foot. The Lions almost immediately established a massive lead and the Bearcats struggled to keep up. Lead scorer was junior Tucker Goss, who scored a 3-pointer.

The first quarter ended 18-5, Lyons.

Things picked up a little in the second period, although not much. The Cats scored more, but they did not outpace their opponents.

Goss was still high scorer for Ellsworth, earning 10 points, but the Cats continued to fall behind, and the second quarter ended 36-19.

If there was anything the team needed coming out of halftime, it was a shot in the arm.

They needed to score a lot, and fast.

Junior Cooper McGowan made two free throws, but that was it for the Bearcats. The third period ended 51-21.

The fourth period would be the worst for the Lions as they only scored 4 points. This allowed the Bearcats to come back ever-so-slightly. McGowan and Goss tied for high scorer with 4 points each.

This puts the team’s record at 0-1.

They play the Beloit Trojans Dec. 20 on the road.
