Bearcats get Homecoming victory
The Bearcats rolled to their fourth consecutive victory during the Sept. 23 Homecoming game against the Hillsboro Trojans, winning 28-0.
Will Cravens led the team on the offensive side in yards overall with 157 yards followed by Loden West with 72 yards and Layton Leiker with 56 yards.
West led the team in touchdowns with two, Cravens and Cole Webber each had one. West led the team in rushing yards with 72 yards, Cravens with 58 yards and Wyatt Bohnen with 49 yards.
The game started with Hillsboro kicking off to the Bearcats, allowing Ellsworth to score a 2-yard rushing touchdown making the score 6-0, but they missed the extra point.
Four minutes into the second quarter, the Bearcats scored another touchdown.
Cravens completed a 24-yard pass to Webber, bringing the score to 12-0. The extra point kick by Cravens was good, giving the Bearcats a 13-point lead. Near Hillsboro’s goal line, Bohnen and Jordan Rodriguez sacked the Trojan quarterback that resulted in a safety to gain two points and returning possession to Ellsworth. The Bearcats were unable to score again leaving the score 15-0 at halftime.
Ellsworth started the third quarter by kicking off to the Trojans. The Trojans were able to complete a 24-yard pass but were unable to make a touchdown, turning over the ball to Ellsworth. Ellsworth was able to score with another rushing touchdown of 1 yard, giving the Bearcats a 21-point lead. The extra point kick by Cravens was good, leaving the score 22-0. Ellsworth held Hillsboro until the end of the quarter leaving the score 22-0.
Shortly after the fourth quarter started, Cravens rushed for a 64-yard touchdown, although the extra point was missed leaving the score 28-0. Hillsboro got possession of the ball again and made a 10-yard run but was unable to score.
On the defensive side, West led the team in tackles with eight and Bohnen with seven. Cravens and Bohnen each had an interception. West, Webber and Leiker each had a sack during the game.
The Bearcats (4-0) will play again at at 7 p.m. Friday at Lyons.
