Bearcats lance Knights 52-0
Having just two seniors on the team and being a predominantly young team, The Ellsworth Bearcats Football Team won their third game Friday night against The Sacred Heart Knights. The final score of the night was 52-0.
Junior receiver Cole Webber led the team with three touchdowns and 195 receiving yards as the Bearcats improved to 3-0 on the season.
“We are just a season team that has been through a lot of diversity in the past and it has really paid off,” head coach Josh Hamoloka said.
The game started strong with a touchdown pass from Junior quarterback Will Cravens to Webber just two minutes into the game. Neither team was able to score again in the first quarter.
Contributing to the final score were Loden West and Landin Johnson with two touchdowns each. Riley Stone added one touchdown. Cravens had 258 passing yards while Will Donley had 11 yards. Stone with 30 and Josh Rodriguez with 25 yards. Cravens also was the kicker and had two good extra point kicks.
Johnson led the team in rushing yards with 127 yards, Loden West with 53 yards and Wyatt Bohnen with 52 yards.
Leading the team on the defensive side was Layton Leiker and West with six tackles each, Webber was just behind them with four tackles. Rodriguez had the only sack of the game.
West scored another touchdown was scored shortly into the second quarter. The two point conversion failed again. The Knights were unable to score, giving the ball back to the Bearcats allowing them to score again, giving Webber his second touchdown for the night. The extra point by Cravens was good. Webber got another touchdown shortly after and the extra point was good again.
The Knights got close scoring but came up short and the ball was turned over to the Bearcats. Webber scored again shortly after gaining possession of the ball. Cravens missed the extra point. The score at the end of the second quarter was 32-0 with the Knights in possession.
The Knights turned over the ball after the third quarter began, allowing Stone to score. The extra point by Cravens was good. The ball went back to the Knights but was intercepted by Leiker but then was fumbled and given back to the Knights. The quarter ended with a touchdown and two point conversion by Johnson.
In the fourth quarter there was one more touchdown by Johnson to wrap up the score at 52-0.
The Bearcats play Hillsboro at home next Friday for their homecoming game at 7 p.m.
