The Central Plains Lady Oilers continued to extend what is now the third longest winning streak in American sports history — at 133 games — with a 68-24 win over Otis-Bison Saturday night in regional play at Claflin.

The Lady Oilers now advance to substate play at Russell.

Senior Emily Ryan led the Lady Oilers in scoring with 29 points. She was followed by Addison Crites and Lexie Oeser, each with 11 points; Bryanna Hammeke with 9; Cassidy Nixon with 5; Zoe Potter with 2; and Delaney Rugan with 1.

The team had a total of nine 3-pointers. Ryan and Oeser had three apiece; Hammeke sank two and Nixon contributed one.

Along with their runs through Classes 2A and 1A over the past six years, the Central Plains girls have also had plenty of success in the Central Prairie League. Friday night’s Class 1A regional semifinals in Claflin were an all-CPL affair with Otis-Bison defeating LaCrosse in the early game. In the nightcap, the Lady Oilers did what they do, out-gunning Victoria 86-31 in front of the home crowd.

“Whenever you can host the playoffs at home, it’s awesome,” said Lady Oiler senior Emily Ryan. “We’re just taking advantage of every opportunity we can get. We haven’t played for a whole week so we were just excited to get out here and play again. It was a lot of fun.”

The Lady Oilers forced three turnovers in the first 95 seconds and that finally led to a basket on a pass from Ryan to Kassidy Nixon. Then the flood gates opened. Ryan put up 15 points in the opening frame. Addison Crites added a basket in the paint late in the quarter, and Delaney Rugan swished a three as Central Plains pulled ahead 25-8 after one.

Senior Zoe Potter got in the mix with a transition basket to open the second quarter. Then it was more Ryan. She reached 27 points with 2:08 to play in the first half. “I try to bring it every night,” she said. “I don’t think I have a different motor than high, trying to play that way whenever I can. Whatever the team needs, I try to do.”

By then the Lady Oiler gap had grown to 41-15. Crites added a putback in the final 70 seconds of the half, and Lexi Oeser hit a three to send the Oilers into the half with a 46-19 lead.

Ryan and most of the starters made their exit late in the third quarter after outscoring the Lady Knights 28-4 to begin the second half. Ryan totaled less than 23 minutes of court time in the game but still piled up 37 points, 10 assists, and seven steals.

Crites missed just two shots all night. She scored five of her 11 points in the third quarter and added five steals. Nixon and Rugan each scored eight points. Freshman Brynna Hammeke scored two points in the third before taking control in the fourth quarter to finish with 10 points. Potter finished with four points, Oeser and Rachel Lamatsch each scored three points, and Jennah Jeffrey scored two points. Victoria junior Brooklynn Kuhn scored all nine of her points in the first half to pace the Knights.
