Observations from Coach Nick Rodriguez:
The team competed in Ellinwood Friday night and had some good performances.
The girls team continued to see our throwers picking up points in their events. Madison Kelley really had a good performance in the shot put. Rylan Ohl continues to pick up points and throw well in multiple events. She placed in the shot and had a big throw in the javelin to place 2nd. Kylan reset the school record in the javelin to place 1st.
Shaylee Leiker returned to the track to place 3rd in the 100m Dash. She has a stress fracture injury from last year that has been giving her trouble all season so we took a few weeks off and are taking it week by week at the moment. Braeden ran well in the hurdles and Kate Wacker placed 2nd in the pole vault. We had some other girls that did not place in their events but have made some progress in their respective events.
The boys are led by the sprinters right now. Luke and Trey are both competing well in the 100m and 200m. Riley Stone had a good outing in the 400m. Eryk Andalon returned to the track as he competed in the pole vault and placed 2nd. He has been sidelined all season with a hamstring injury the day before our 1st meet. We ran a 4x8 relay and they placed third. Our 4x1 relay had a good race but we still can have even better handoffs and drop a bit more time. We ran a different group in the 4x4 and added Luke and Trey and we really dropped some time there.
This was one of the meets that sort of helps make some decisions leading into the regional meet. We had couple kids come up with injuries and will evaluate them on Monday to see where we are at heading into the league meet. Our focus now is on our championship meets with league, regional, and state.
