Donley places second at Oberlin tournament
OBERLIN — Junior Will Donley took second in the 132-lb. weight bracket Jan. 13 for the Bearcat boys’ wrestling team.
Donley wrestled against Siegfried of McCook, Neb., and won by a fall, also racking up points from takedowns, reversals and nearfalls. He then moved on to finals, but was pinned by a firstranked wrestler in the third period.
Four Bearcat wrestlers placed fourth. At 126-pounds, sophomore Hadley West was pinned in the first round, but fought back to win by a fall against his next opponent. He was pinned by Balthazor of Stockton in the thirdplace match.
Sophomore Jackson Minear wrestled at 138 and pinned his first two opponents, Hartwell of McCook, and Becker of Plainville. He lost the third place match by fall in the second period.
Sophomore Keegan Urbanek wrestled in the 165-lb. weight bracket and began with a bye. He lost his match against Byran of Oberlin, but moved on to wrestle Blomstedt of McCook, winning by decision. Urbanek lost his final match by fall.
The final wrestler to place was sophomore Micah Galvan in a round robin.
“I feel good about my outcome at Oberlin as I wrestled some pretty good kids,” Minear said. “I feel I have a few things that I need to work out in practice, but you can’t always win every match.”
It was a tough meet for the Cats, but they come back to wrestle at Southeast of Saline Jan. 18and Hays Jan. 19-20.
