Ellsworth, Oiler tennis players take second

PRAIRIE VILLAGE — Ellsworth’s No. 1 singles player Joey Oberle took second place at the 2019 Class 3-2-1A Boys’ state tennis tournament this past weekend in Prairie Village.
Oberle, who finished in first place at regionals, entered the state tournament with a 28-1 record. While he cruised through the state tournament, Oberle was defeated by Kansas City Christian’s Owen Vanderak. Vanderak defeated Oberle, 6-0, 6-4 in the singles’ championship.
Bearcat Cody Bourbon, who finished sixth at regionals (17-7), was defeated by Conway Spring’s Luke Bellar 6-1, 6-0, in the first round.
