Ellsworth takes 2nd at its invitational

Ellsworth’s two doubles teams had a good day Thursday, April 1, as they finished with more points than their competition.

Overall, the Bearcats finished second at the EHS Varsity Invitational Tennis Tournament.

The Ellsworth No. 1 doubles team of Brendan Anderson and Adam Vehring finished with 21 points.

Hoisington’s Braden Mooney and Mason Haxton were second with 18 points. The ‘Cats No. 2 doubles team of Jaret Brungardt and Chase Bourbon had 14 points, again scrapping by Hoisington’s Ryan Woydziak and Chase Maier by 2 points.

Despite their wins, however, Ellsworth fell overall to Hoisington, 55 to 44, for firs place overall.

Ellsworth didn’t add any points in No 2 singles. No. 1 singles player Grady Mueller contributed nine points to the team’s total.

Others at the invitational were: Larned, third; Cimarron, fourth; Trego Community (WaKeeney), fifth Colby, sixth; Scott Community, seventh; and Lyons, eighth.

Ellsworth’s coaches are Eric Anderson and Garry Stredney.

The next competition for the Bearcats will be today (Tuesday, April 6) at the Ellsworth Invitational.
