Ellsworth wrestlers place fourth
Ellsworth’s wrestling team tied for fourth place Saturday at the 47th annual Ellsworth Wrestling Invitational, which attracted a dozen schools to Ellsworth Junior/Senior High School. The Bearcats’ Brendan Tripp placed first in the 220-pound category. Teagon Nienke placed second in the 106-pound division. Tyler Walford, who as of Dec. 31 was ranked fifth in the state in his division, placed third in the 285-pound division. And James Stalnaker brought home a third place in the 132-pound category. As did Bearcat Morgan Kelley in the 145-pound division. Tyler Romero captured fifth place in the 195-pound category. Ellsworth’s Jacob Keller placed seventh at 113 pounds. Leading the teams of wrestlers was Hoisington with 188.5 points. Following were Hill City with 151.5 points and Hesston with 91. Ellsworth and Cheney had 81 points each. The order from there went: Russell (67.5); Ell-Saline (44); Lincoln (39.5); Osborne (39); Garden Plain (38); Lyons (35); and Southeast of Saline (11).
