Ellsworth County will be well represented later this month at state track and field competition this weekend in Wichita. Here are the Ellsworth students who qualified for state at regionals May 16-19 at Smith Center: Lakyn Tenbrink, tied for first in the high jump; Kash Travnichek, 3rd in high jump and 4th in 110 hurdles; Luke Dunn, 3rd in javelin; Eryk Andalon, 4th in pole vault. Shaylee Leiker, 1st in 100m and 2nd in 400m; Luke Sharp, 3rd in 100m; Josiah Bolton, 1st in 1600m and Katie Wacker, 6th in pole vault. The Lady ‘Cats 4x400 relay team of Leiker, Tenbrink, Makenzie Stroede and Savannah Hellebust placed 4th.

The Wilson Dragons had two students qualify for state at Hill City: Kaleigh Hanzlick 1st in high jump and 4th in 100m hurdles; and Macy Hanzlick, 2nd in 200m dash.

The Central Plains Oilers will send five to state: The 4x800m relay team of Hannah Redetzke, Callie Zink, Jennah Jeffrey and Monica Short took first; Cole Lamatsch placed 4th in the boys’ 3200m. (Amelia Bailey and Riley Thompson are alternates on the girls’ relay team.)
