The Ellsworth High School varsity football team is now 5-0 after defeating Lyons 55-0, Sept. 30, at Lyons.
In the air, the Bearcats were one for three for 25 yards in the winning effort, with one touchdown and no interceptions. On the ground, Ellsworth carried the ball 32 times for a total of 295 yards. Two of those runs were for more than 100 yards. Overall, the Bearcats averaged 9.3 yards per carry and had 323 yards of total offense.
Next up for the Bearcats is a Friday, Oct. 7, game against the Russell Broncos at Russell. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Central Plains Oilers football homecoming dreams were dashed Sept. 30, as they were defeated by the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs 12-6 at home in Clafin.
In the air, the Oilers were three of nine for 31 yards and one interception. On the ground, Central Plains ran 36 rushing plays for 147 yards. The Oilers averaged just 4.08 yards per play.
Next up for the 0-5 Oilers is a 7 p.m. away game Friday, Oct. 7, in Otis against another 0-5 team, the Otis-Bison Cougars.
Like the Central Plains Oilers a week ago, the Wilson High School Dragons varsity football team was crushed by the Victoria Knights, 52-6, during a Sept. 30 game at Wilson. The Dragons were one of five through the air for just 11 yards and one interception. On the ground, the Dragons ran the ball 21 times for 63 yards and one touchdown.
Next up for the Dragons is a 7 p.m. road game Friday, Oct. 7, at Sylvan Grove against the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs.
