Girls’ track takes third at home
The Ellsworth girls’ track team placed third at their home meet April 15.
The meet was followed two days later by another competition in Lindsborg at the Smoky Valley Invitational April 17.
“Having two meets just one day apart is extremely difficult,” head coach Nick Rodriguez said. “Tuesday (April 15 at home) we had nearperfect conditions, and Thursday (April 18 in Lindsborg) was extremely hot and windy.
“We ran athletes in more events at home than we did at Smoky Valley on Thursday. On Thursday in Smoky Valley we scaled back what we were doing. This is one of toughest competition days of the season, outside of Beloit Relays and regionals, so the competition is always good.”
At home, junior Lainey Peschka snagged three individual medals.
“We had some really strong performances from all the kids that competed,” Rodriguez said. “Lainey picked up three medals in her individual events and Molly Ehrlich had a couple medals and our only first place finish in the 1600m run. Keeley (Pflughoeft) had a strong performance in the javelin and our other female throwers are picking up points.
“Hosting a track meet is a lot of work, but thanks to some great volunteers, we had another successful meet,” he said.
