Girls’ wrestling at Great Bend
GREAT BEND — The Ellsworth girls’ wrestling team competed at the Great Bend Tournament Dec. 14, placing 18th out of 25 teams.
The only wrestler who placed was sophomore Sophie Homolka in the 145-lb. bracket. She started by winning against Colby 10-0. She then won against Colby 7-4, Phillipsburg 10-0, Norton 7-1 and Johnson-Stanton 3-0. She lost against Scott Community 11-9 to place fourth.
Girls’ wrestling at Trego
WAKEENEY — The Ellsworth girls’ wrestling team competed at the WaKeeney-Trego Community Tournament in WaKeeney Dec. 7, placing 29th out of 30 teams with 31 points overall.
Junior Breauna Russell in the 155-lb. bracket started off winning against Olathe East 3-0. Next she faced Junction City and lost in a 4-4 tie. She moved into the consolation bracket, faced Tonganoxie and won 9-0. She won against Hutchinson 10-0 and lost to Russell 7-0. She lost to Salina South 3-1 then won against Hoisington and finally won against Great Bend. She placed 11th and earned 12 points for the team.
Sophomore Brooklyn Web competed in the 125-lb. bracket. She lost to Hays 7-0 and was then booted to the consolation bracket, where she won against Tonganoxie 4-0, Goodland 3-0 and lost to Great Bend 6-0. She then lost to Emporia 4-0 and finally won against Dodge City 3-1. She placed 11th.
