Holechek new coach

The Ellsworth golf team is looking forward to a promising season full of individual and self-improvement.

After last season’s Head Coach Kevin Haxton resigned from teaching in December, the spot was filled by Darin Holecek, Ellsworth, who is hopeful for what the season will bring.

“Developing relationships and acknowledging individual personalities of our student athletes” are some of what first-year coach Holecek is most looking forward to.

Junior Avery Holecek is the only returning letterman, and as the most experienced player, she strives to lead her teammates, both on and off the golf course.

“I plan on being as supportive as I possibly can, whether it comes to hyping my teammates up or just watching them play and succeed,” Avery Holecek said. “I look forward to growing and getting better, as well as getting closer with everyone.”

Other members of the team include Billy Duncan, Sam Karst, Reese Gier and Izaac Vasquez.

With a lack of tournament experience for a majority of the team, Darin Holecek hopes to help expand the knowledge of golf etiquette of his players.

Some of his other goals include “enhancing interpersonal skills and allowing a positive atmosphere for building relationships within the team and with other players and coaches from other schools.”

While the team strives for success on the course, there are bigger goals in mind as well.

“Ellsworth golf has always been known for honesty, integrity, etiquette and representing USD 327 in a positive manner,” Darin Holecek said. “The emphasis is to continue to build this reputation and expectation.”

The team will kick off its season at 1 p.m. today at Lake Barton Golf Club in Great Bend.
