PHILLIPSBURG — The Ellsworth girls’ wrestling team competed in the Girls’ Panther Classic Feb. 6, taking 10th out of 18 teams with 50 points, 12 points behind ninth place WaKeeney and 3 points ahead of 11th place Osborne.

In individual standings, the Bearcats placed two wrestlers in the top four, with junior Sophie Homolka bringing home the top prize in the 145lb. bracket and freshman Kit Donley taking the fourth spot in the 120-lb. bracket.

Going undefeated on the day, Homolka started with a bye, then defeated Reagan Lauber of Osborne 3-0, Makayla Hays of St. Francis 3-0 and Karper Franklin of St. Francis.

Donley, going 3-2 on the day, also started with a bye before defeating Neveah Rohan of Smith Center 12-0, losing to Josie Bell of Hoxie 5-0, defeating Brylee Herman of Beloit 3-0, then losing to Madison Siegfried of St. Francis 4-3.

Also wrestling for the Bearcats were freshman Adrianna Neuman (125 lbs., 3-2); sophomores Kiya Schultz (106 lbs., 2-2), Hadleigh Hicks (135 lbs., 1-2) and Dannie Miley (140 lbs., 0-3); and junior Brooklyn Webb (130 lbs., 2-2).

The team travels to Trego County High School in WaKeeney Feb. 13-14 to compete in the KSHSAA Class 3A-1A Regional Tournament starting at noon Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Qualifiers will then compete at the State Championship Tournament Feb. 27-28 at Fort Hays State University.
