The Ellsworth girls’ basketball team played Lyons Dec. 6 at home, obliterating the Lions 49-19.

The game got off to somewhat of a slow start, with both teams taking a while to get much of anywhere. Junior Lainey Peschka was the top scorer for Ellsworth in the first quarter, making a 3-pointer. The first period ended 5-4, Bearcats, but it would not remain that way for long.

Ellsworth really started to shoot forward in the second quarter. They almost quadrupled their score while stopping the Lions from replicating their progress. The lead scorer was junior Kelli Rodriguez, who made three free throws. The quarter ended 19-9, and the Cats’ lead would only get bigger.

The main player in the third quarter was junior Alexis Moore, who scored 11 of the team’s 15 points. The Lions were left floundering once again, only making two free throws, and the third period ended 34-11, Ellsworth.

By now the Cats had established a very comfortable lead. They did not entertain any thoughts of mercy for the fourth quarter.

Peschka was the high scorer again with 3 points.

This puts their season record at 1-0. They play the Beloit Trojans at Beloit Dec. 20.
