Lady Dragons advance to second round of sub-state
WILSON — The Wilson High School Lady Dragons hosted the Otis-Bison Lady Cougars in the first round of substate basketball tournament Friday, Feb. 25. The Dragons were hot in the first quarter outscoring their opponent 12-5. The second quarter was more of an even matchup of 8-7 taking the Dragons to halftime with a 20-12 lead. Returning for the second half the Dragons continued to lead the Lady Cougars, outscoring them 13-11 to bring the score at the end of the third quarter to 33- 23. Otis-Bison attempted to battle back, outscoring the Lady Dragons 9-13 in the fourth quarter. Despite their efforts the Lady Dragons came out on top with a final score of 42-36.
Scoring in double digits for the Lady Dragons was sophomore Anna Thielen with 15 points and freshman Serenity Steinike with 14 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Dragons were freshman Abby Dlabal with 5 points, and scoring 4 points each were sophomore Skylar Cullens and freshman Tyra Meyer. Leading rebounders with 9 each were Steinike and Meyer. Freshman Hallie Thielen pulled in 7 rebounds as well.
The Lady Dragons advanced to the second round of sub-state, and will be taking on the Central Plains High School Lady Oilers on Friday, March 4, in Claflin.
