Bearcats roll over Republic County
The Ellsworth Bearcats Varsity Football Team earned a convincing win on the road Sept. 9 at Republic County 32-0.
Beacats quarterback Will Cravens threw three touchdown passes in the winning effort, while receivers Cole Webber and Josh Rodriguez had two and one catch each adding to the victory.
The Bearcats were 19 of 26 for 272 passing yards and no interceptions.
Ellsworth rushed for 198 yards on 28 carries and had a total of 122 rushing yards.
Next up for the Bearcats Football Team is a 7 p.m. home football game this Friday (Sept. 16) against Sacred Heart.
Oilers get crushed by Macksville
For the second week in a row, the Central Plains Oilers Varsity Football Team has fallen in defeat. On Sept. 9, they fell to Macksville, 42-12.
Macksville held Central Plains scoreless in the second and third quarters.
Offensively, Central Plains was just 3 for 13 in the passing department for just 34 yards as well as two interceptions.
The Oilers had 42 rushing plays for 123 yards. The team also had just seven first downs and were penalized nine times for a total of 70 yards. The team also had one fumble.
Next up for the Oilers is a 7 p.m. home game this Friday (Sept. 16) against LaCrosse.
Wilson defeated by Lakeside
The Wilson Dragons Varsity Football Team was defeated 34-12 at Lakeside during a Sept. 9 game against the Knights. This is the second defeat in a row for the Dragons, having lost on Sept. 2 to Pike Valley 42-6 in the season opener.
Next up for the Dragon is a 7 p.m. game this Friday (Sept. 16) at Grinnell.
Oilers runners compete at Hesston
Coach Keeley Hipp and her Central Plains High School Oilers Cross Country Team traveled to Hesston Sept. 9 to compete in the Hesston Meet.
Peyton Ryan took 10th with a time of 19:36, Cale Thompson took 16th with a time of 20:53, Rylan Siemsen had a time of 24:56, Callun Rogers had a time of 26:54, and Aiden Frees had a time of 34:40.
JoAnna Donecker did not run at this meet. According to Hipp, the runners ran with their grade level, but medaled with only 3-2-1A.
“I am proud of this group,” Hipp said. “It was a tough meet with tough competitors.”
On Sept. 15, the Oilers runners compete at 4 p.m. at St. John.
