Ellsworth girls take home gold On April 21, the Ellsworth track and field team headed to the Sterling Relays for their fourth meet of the season.

Two Ellsworth girls took home gold. Freshman Kate Rathbun had a personal best running two miles in 14:35.78 while junior Kylan Turnipseed threw the javelin 125 feet, 7 inches to finish in first.

In the triple jump, junior Will Cravens bounced back from a heel injury and jumped 41 feet, 4 ½ inches for a first-place finish.

Junior Riley Stone picked up multiple medals, nabbing fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.50 and contributing to the 4x100 relay team of Loden West, Josh Rodriguez and Landin Johnson and the 4x400 relay team including Josh Rodriguez, Wyatt Pelzel and Cravens, which both placed third.

The team competes at the Beloit Relays tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Hays shoots 46/50 in trap

Good weather was an asset for the trap team April 23.

Junior Trenton Hays was again the top shooter, hitting 46 targets out of 50, and sophomore Dax Leiker followed in second with 38/50.

Twelve other athletes also saw success in the 30-36/50 range.

“We have seen everyone improve as the season is progressing,” Assistant Coach Bruce Hyman said. “Trap shooting is like every other athletic sport in which you excel when you perfect the basics. I am looking forward to our team continuing to grow and improve, and hope that the team will become a team that is known to be competitive across the state.”

Ellsworth golf team travels to Beloit to compete in tourney

On April 20, the golf team traveled to Beloit for a meet. There were 46 golfers competing.

Placing 25th, junior Sam Karst had a score of 114, junior Avery Holecek placed 40th with a score of 132, sophomore Billy Duncan placed 45th with a 147 and senior Izaac Vasquez placed 46th with a score of 150.

The team traveled to Belleville April 17. There were 61 total golfers at the meet.

Placing 26th, Holecek had a score of 104, Karst scored 110 and placed 37th, 127, Duncan placed 55 with a 157 and placing 57th, Vasquez scored 130.

The team’s next contest is today at the Russell Invitational at 11 a.m.
