Holecek breaks into top 25 at Russell golf meet
RUSSELL — The Ellsworth golf team competed at the Russell Invitational April 27.
While the weather caused some issues throughout the week, the team was still able to make the trip and work at their individual scores.
There were 44 golfers at the meet, so the score gaps were tight.
Breaking the top 25, junior Avery Holecek finished with a score of 112.
Holecek said what has helped her to improve this season is “keeping myself calm and collected while playing. If I focus too much on past shots, it can mess up my future shots. I just try to keep calm no matter what.”
Sophomore Billy Duncan had a score of 123 and finished in 36th place.
Junior Sam Karst golfed a 125. While he only scored 2 more points than Duncan, he finished in 40th place.
Karst was trailed closely by senior Isaac Vasquez who finished 41st. Vasquez finished the day with a score of 127.
Hays scores 40/50 in trap
Junior Trenton Hays was the top target shooter for the Ellsworth trap team with a total score of 40/50 April 30. His individual rounds were 21/25 and 19/25.
Other high individual rounds for week three were sophomore Allie Thomasson and seventh grader Walter Hulse who both scored a 20/25, which was both athletes’ personal record.
Senior Aidan Moyer stayed consistent with two 17/25 rounds that totaled to 34/50. In addition, Hulse also scored 34/50 for both competitors to tie for the second highest overall score.
The next shoot is Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Ellsworth County Sportsman’s Club and is open to the public.
