Six and counting; gridders defeat Russell Broncos 33-14

The Bearcat football team took to their home turf Oct. 6 to compete against the Russell Broncos on a chilly evening, beating them 33-14 and upping their season record to 6-0.

The first play of the game set the tone with a tackle for a loss of yards by senior Loden West.

“We started out really well,” Head Coach Josh Homolka said. “We moved the ball well in the first half. The defense really got going well in the second half. We slowed the game down in the second half and really focused on the run game and playing good defense.”

The game was marked by penalties, but the Cats persisted and were able to fight back the Broncos.

“I felt like in the second half (senior) Ian Andalon, Loden West and (junior) Landin Johnson did a great job running the ball and putting some distance on the scoreboard between us and Russell,” Homolka said.

On Oct. 13, the Bearcats head to Halstead for their seventh contest of the season.
