Three EHS Bearcats fail to qualify for state golf
The Ellsworth High School Varsity Golf Team’s Rowdy Dunn was once again a standout May 10, during the NCAA Leagu Tournament hosted by Ellsworth.
Dunn shot an 88 to take eighth place in what EHS Golf Team Coach Kevin Haxton described as a “very difficult” tournament.
In addition, Bradley Vopat took 19th place, shooting a 102; Avery Holecek took 23rd place, shooting a 116; Samuel Karst took 29th place, shooting a 128; and Cady Hansen took 30th place, shooting a 137.
According to Haxton, Ellsworth took fifth place, overall, in the tournament, shooting a 434.
Three members of Bearcats Golf traveled to Larned May 16 to play in the regional competition. They are Dunn, Vopat and Holecek.
Haxton hoped that one or more of these three would play good enough at regionals to qualify for state. Unfortunately none of the three qualified. However, out of 45 participants, Dunn took 13th place with a 95, Vopat took 29th place with a 104 and Holecek took 35th place with a 114.
