Senior Aidan Johnson one stroke shy of advancing to state

KINGMAN — The Ellsworth golf team competed in 3A regionals May 19 at Eagles Pub and Golf Course, a par 72 course.

“Aidan Johnson missed qualifying for State Tournament by one shot,” head coach Darin Holecek said.

Ellsworth finished fifth with a team score of 394. The team from Cheney won the day with a score of 347.

In individual results for the Bearcats, senior Aidan Johnson led the team with a tie for 13th with a score of 92; junior Micah Galvan shot 98 for 22nd; junior Cooper McGowan shot 99 for 23rd; junior Braylyn Gardner shot 105 for a tie for 32nd; junior Elyse Haxton shot 115 for 37th place and senior Caleb Hays shot 121 for 41st.

On May 13, the team competed in the NCAA League Tournament at Minneapolis.

Competing against seven teams and 41 total golfers, the Bearcats finished fourth in team standings with a score of 382. Sacred Heart High School won the tournament with a score of 299.

Three Ellsworth golfers had personal records at the tournament, with senior Aidan Johnson placing in a tie for 21st, junior Braylyn Gardner placing 23rd and junior Elyse Haxton placing 25th.

Other individual results were junior Cooper McGowan in 24th, junior Micah Galvan in 29th and senior Caleb Hays in 39th.
