Three headed for state track in Wichita
SCOTT CITY — Three athletes advanced to the state competition at the regional track Meet May 22.
Junior Lainey Peschka and sophomore Molly Ehrlich are headed to state for the second time, and will be joined by senior Keeley Pflughoeft.
Traditionally, the top three athletes in each event at regionals qualify for state.
“This year a new system was in place, and after the 12 automatic qualifiers were placed, then the next four best times, distances, heights from all four regions combined earned that athlete a spot in the state meet,” head coach Nick Rodriguez said. “This year that helped get Lainey Peschka qualified in the 100m and 200m and we just missed getting Kinly Place in the 400m and Lainey in the 300m hurdles as well.”
Pflughoeft will make her first appearance at state.
“She came in had some consistent throws,” Rodriguez said.
Ehrlich, who competes in the 3,200m run, has had a few obstacles this season.
“She is battling a stress fracture that last half of the season so getting to state is a huge accomplishment as she really has only ran three times since Easter break,” Rodriguez said.
State track will be May 30-31 at Wichita State University.
