Track coach shares values of track club

By
Special To The I-r

The Central Plains Track Club was started six years ago to give the youth a chance to excel in track. This club teaches the youth to learn the fundamentals of running properly and the proper form for field events.

Through this process, we teach them how to win or lose in a positive manner. This track club gives every youth a chance at success by just going out and working hard. The club started with 15 kids and now it has grown to 82 kids who range in age from pre-kindergarten to 6th grade. I want to personally thank all the parents for all the support they did with each child. It makes the child feel important and want to work harder. This is why the success rate is very high and positive

Through all this, our school athletics can grow and become more successful in future years. If you have a successful track program it will help all other athletic events. It is exciting to watch each child improve from day one to the last meet. It means a lot to see parents helping kids improve PR’s and encouraging them to want to improve. It means a lot to me that parents trusted and supported my decisions as their coach to better prepare them for each event on a day-to-day basis. Hopefully, this prepares each child with a foundation for a better future.

We would like our communities to come together and support our youth and put together a better track facility. Through this, we can give our kids the ability to have the best equipment to work with and enjoy doing it. More kids would go out in Jr. High and High school if the facility was up to date. Plus having a better facility can bring more people to the area and improve appearance. A new track facility would be beneficial to the communities for a place to walk instead of on the paved streets. Hopefully, this track club keeps growing and the support stays strong. Thank you all for everything you do!

Sincerely,

Coach Don Hickel
