Trojans lance Ellsworth boys

BELOIT — The Ellsworth boys’ basketball team competed against the Beloit Trojans Dec. 20 and lost 71-39.
The game got off on a very sour note. While both teams were putting numbers on the board, the Cats were starting to fall behind. The first quarter ended 12-7 Trojans, with some room for the Cats to possibly come back.
The Trojans continued to expand their lead in the second quarter, leaving the Ellsworth trailing even more, and the quarter ended 27-17.
The third quarter completely dashed any hopes the Bearcats had of a comeback. The Trojans practically doubled the points they scored in the second quarter, leaving the Cats floundering. The third quarter ended 48-27.
The Trojans continued stomping the Bearcats into the ground in the fourth quarter. The Cats had their most productive quarter of the game, but it ultimately wouldn’t matter much. Damage control was activated, but it proved fruitless.
The lead scorer for the team was junior Cooper McGowan, who scored 14 points.
The Bearcats’ record is 4-3. The team plays the Larned Indians Jan. 7 at home. The rematch against the Trojans is Jan. 14 at home.
