The Bearcat volleyball team traveled to Beloit Oct. 3 and competed in a triangular match at home against Smoky Valley and Central Plains Oct.

5.

Losses at Beloit take Cats’ league record to 6-2 Starting off the week with a trip to Beloit, the Cats took two losses to the Trojans.

The first match began with a commanding lead for Beloit. The Bearcats struggled to defend the offense the Trojans were running, so Beloit took the first set 25-11.

After the first set ended, the Cats had a better idea of the energy, aggression, and coverage on the court required to equally compete with the Trojans. Because they were more aggressive on offense, the Bearcats were able to make Beloit work on defense. Fighting until the end, the Trojans were still able to come away with the victory, winning the second set 25-20.

Although Ellsworth was able to put up a fight at the end of the first match, they struggled to keep up in the second game of the night.

The first set started strong for the Trojans, and the Cats were unable to keep up with Beloit.

The Trojans won the first set 25-15.

While the Bearcats continued to fight, they were unable to claim the victory. The Trojans ended the match in two sets, winning the second set 25-12.

Taking their first two losses in league to Beloit put Ellsworth’s NCAA league record at 6-2.

Beloit is currently ranked first in the league.

Sophomore Elyse Haxton was the leader in kills, earning 10 for the night. Sophomore Alexis Moore led the stat for stuff blocks with 3, and senior Kylan Turnipseed was the leader in both digs, with 9 and assists, with 19.

Netters go 1-1 at home triangular

At their home triangular against Smoky Valley and Central Plains, the Bearcats took one win and one loss. The theme for the night was Pink Out and the team sported pink jerseys on the court and the student section decked out in pink attire in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Cats started the night against Smoky Valley. The Vikings took charge, and Ellsworth struggled to get anything started offensively.

However, later into the set the Cats fought back and made it a close game. The Vikings still managed to finish on top with a score of 25-20.

The second set was a closer battle all the way through. The Cats were able to return the intensity the Vikings showed throughout the set.

However, Smoky Valley came out on top with a score of 25-20.

In the second match of the night, the Bearcats played Central Plains.

While the first set began slowly for the Cats, they were able to eventually take control of the court and finish with a commanding win over the Oilers with a score of 25-11.

Allowing Central Plains to compete closely for a majority of the second set, Ellsworth did not finish with as large of a lead. However, they managed to finish with a victory of 25-19.

Sophomore Elyse Haxton led with a powerful 20 kills for the night. With four stuff blocks, sophomore Alexis Moore led the stat for the Cats. Senior Lexi West had 15 digs, and senior Kylan Turnipseed had 43 assists for the night.

The volleyball team will take on Hoisington and Hutch Trinity at home Oct. 12.
