Wilson crowns King of Courts at Winter game

Wilson High School celebrated Winter Homecoming and USD 112 Hall of Fame recipients Friday, Feb. 7.

Charlie Hlad was crowned King of Courts. Inducted into the Hall of Fame were:

• Sherry Sloan has worked for USD 112 for 27 years. She has always put the needs of the students before her own. For the past 15 years as the technology coordinator, Sherry has kept the school running smoothly.

• Kathy Powers began her career in education in 1985. In 1991 she and her husband Bob moved to Wilson with their children, Justin and Tacy. Kathy has taught a variety of subjects, mostly at the junior high level. Drama has been a passion and she has directed 12 plays at Wilson schools.

• Bob Powers has spent 30 years in education as a teacher, mostly science, and coach. He taught drivers education for many years. Bob retired in 2014 but has spent his time since subbing and coaching girls volleyball and cross country. He also continues to teach drivers ed in the summers.

As part of Homecoming, the Dragons played St. John’s Bluejays of Beloit. Due to injury and illness the Lady Dragons did not have enough players. The boys, however, played a good game. Unfortunately they couldn’t keep up with the Bluejays and lost 58-34.

Wilson’s Westin Hughes was the high scorer with 15 points. He also managed one defensive rebound and 3 steals.

Camryn Eberhart was the second high scorer, adding 9 points for the Dragons. Eberhart also got two assists and defensive rebounds.

Memphis Eberhart put 4 points on the score board along with Garrett Thielen. Thielen had five defensive rebounds. M. Eberhart had two. Thielen and M. Eberhart had three assists total.

Charlie Hlad put two points up for the Dragons and rebounded the ball three times.

Cody Slechta and Dylan Crawford each had an assist. Cooper Weinhold had five total rebounds and one steal. Christopher Drees got the ball back for the Dragons with one defensive rebound.
