The Midway Extension District’s annual 4-H Club Day was Feb. 23. Clubs from Ellsworth and Russell competed in various events at Wilson High School.

The events consist of speaking presentations including project talks, demonstrations, illustrated talks, extemporaneous speaking, public speaking and Show and Tell for Cloverbuds.

4-Hers can also enter vocal entries, piano solos, instrumental entries and various talent numbers. Talent entries include a skit, club skit, dance, and reading.

According to Marcia Gier, Midway Extension District’s 4-H and youth development agent, Club Day provide 4-Hers practical skills that are valuable for real life.

“Club Day is a wonderful learning experience for our youth. This day gives our 4-Hers the opportunity to showcase their talents and receive constructive comments from a judge. They learn so much about themselves through the preparation stage and final results; Gier said.

She added, “The life skills judging component affords our youth practical skills that they can take with them throughout life. They learn skills such as what to look for in buying a car, vegetable identification and reading nutrition labels to determine the healthier option.”

Ellsworth County is home to five 4-H clubs, Ash Creek, County Liners, Elkhorn, Trying Tommies and Wilson Winners.
