Grain prices mostly down for the week
Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day, Monday, Nov. 18, were:
Wheat, bu. — $3.79, down 4 cents from Nov. 11.
Milo, bu. — $3.03, down 3 cents.
Soybeans, bu. — $7.88, up 3 cents.
Corn, bu. — $3.38, down 5 cents.
The co-op has locations in Ellsworth, Black Wolf, Farhman, Hitschmann, Holyrood and Kanopolis.
Gwinner attends state meeting
Dr. Kyle Gwinner of Ellsworth was among more than 230 optometrists at the Kansas Optometric Association Fall Eyecare Conference Nov. 8-10 at the DoubleTree by Hilton — Wichita Airport in Wichita.
Optometrists attending received 13 hours of continuing education. This seminar focused on office guidelines, dry eye, eye-related diseases, the future of eye care and more. Fall Eyecare Conference 2019 also featured exhibits with the most recent developments in eyewear, optometric equipment, electronic health records, patient services and practice management.
The Kansas Optometric Association serves doctors of optometry across the state and around the country. It serves as a membership resource for information and educational opportunities, provides valuable public information about vision-related topics and delivers a unified voice about issues affecting the profession.
‘Mathemagician’ to take stage
The mind-blowing “Mathemagician” Dr. Arthur Benjamin will put on a free show at 9 a.m. Nov. 25 in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Barton Community College.
Benjamin has appeared on many television and radio programs including The Today Show, CNN, The Colbert Report, and National Public Radio. He has been profiled in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, People Magazine and more.
Benjamin’s presentation is the kickoff to the 16th Annual Jack Kilby Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Day ( JKSD). Area high school students get to choose from several hands-on minisessions, demonstrations, competitions and experiments in various areas of science and technology throughout the morning. The day will close with an Academic Carnival and a free lunch.
