I-R goes to press early this week
The Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter went to the printer early this week because of the Thanksgiving holiday. This is our annual edition that is mailed to all homes in Ellsworth County and nearby communities, including Brookville. The staff worked over the weekend to send pages to Hutchinson by Sunday night. As a result, the I-R will not have coverage of Monday night’s regular meeting of the Ellsworth City Council. However, look on our website, www.indyrepnews.com, or our Facebook page late Monday night for a brief summary of the meeting. A more detailed story will appear in the Thursday, Dec. 5, edition of the I-R. Ellsworth County area residents should receive their newspapers Wednesday. In-office copies can be picked up Tuesday or Wednesday morning. The newspaper office at 304 N. Douglas Avenue will close at noon Wednesday and reopen Monday, Dec. 2.
Healthy soils is session topic
No-till on the Plains and the Nature Conservancy will sponsor a session Dec. 10 on winterizing soils and the value of pollinators in a regenerative production system. The session will be at Santa Fe Trail Farms, 1525 31 Road, Windom, owned by Joe Swanson and Darin and Tove Brunk. The days begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration. At 9 a.m., Ryan Speer, co-owner of Jacob Farms in Sedgwick will talk about how he has added diversity in his rotation, using cover crops and integrating livestock. “Healthy soils will help Kansas farmers feed a growing global population with tangible economic and ecological benefits,” said Rob Manes, state director of the Kansas Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. There is no charge, but participants should register at www.notill.org
