FFA Week is a success

The Ellsworth High School FFA Chapter concluded a successful National FFA week, according to Karl Dawn Hobbs Stover, local FFA advisor.

Events were Feb. 20-29.

The chapter raised $4,750 at its Feb. 20 work and silent auction. Bidders competed for eight hours of work from FFA members and local businesses donated items for the silent auction. More than 50 guests from the community attended, and were treated to a free chili and cinnamon roll supper.

On Feb. 22, Ellsworth garnered second place as a team in the District Meats Judging, with Rachel Sebesta getting third place and Ashley Woods 10th place.

More than 270 meals were served Feb. 27 at the FFA Community Appreciation Breakfast in the Agriculture Shop. Stover had to send students to the store to purchase more sausage and pancake mix due to the high community participation.

During the week, chapter members also visited the local junior high and elementary schools to talk about the importance of agriculture in the community and their daily lives.

“The most positive thing this week was the students getting out in their community by working and serving the elementary, middle school and high school, and community members as a whole,” Stover said.
