Grain prices down for the week

Prices paid for grain at the Ellsworth Co-op at the end of the business day, Monday, April 20, were:

Wheat, bu. — $4.60, up 1 cent from April 13.

Milo, bu. — $3.24, down 8 cents.

Soybeans, bu. — $7.33, down 26 cents.

Corn, bu. — $2.79, down 18 cents.

The co-op has locations in Ellsworth, Black Wolf, Farhman, Hitschmann, Holyrood and Kanopolis.

Wilson discusses ordinance

Changes to the draft abandoned property ordinance were discussed April 14 during a special remote meeting of the Wilson City Council. Mayor Mike Peschka and city clerk Susan Kriley will incorporate proposed changes in the ordinance and provide the updated draft to city attorney Theresa Staudinger for review before it is presented again to the council.

Med center board meets on loan

During a brief remote special meeting of the Ellsworth County Medical Center board of directors April 16, approval was given to a resolution to participate in the Small Business Administration Paycheck Protection Program.

Dave Brownback of Ellsworth’s Citizens State Bank and Trust Company, Inc. said the hospital is funded for a two year, $1.9 million loan under the program at 1 percent interest.

The original application was submitted April 6 by the hospital. Approval was received the next day. However, that approval was rescinded Friday, April 10.

After Andrew Bair, the hospital’s chief executive officer, called Brownback and federal legislators in hopes of getting the loan reinstated, the hospital receive noticed of reapproval on April 15. See story on Page A1.

Bair plans to use the funds to pay employee salaries for the next five pay periods.
