Ellsworth to observe Day of Prayer

Ellsworth will observe the National Day of Prayer remotely today (Thursday) from the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Ellsworth.

Anita Hoffhines of the Ellsworth Kiwanis Club said the observance will be televised live on Facebook Live at 7 a.m. today on the Ellsworth Kiwanis Facebook page (@KiwanisEllsworth). It may be also televised on Eagle Channel 2.

John Thaemert will be the speaker for the observance. Several prayers and musical performances will fill out the almost hour-long event.

Kanopolis adds to water project

The Kanopolis City Council approved additional work on an abandoned water line, as well as the installation of a new valve and fire hydrant. The work is not to exceed $7,000.

Thaniel Monaco of BG Consultants said installing a new fire hydrant near the new water well would be beneficial. In addition, the old main water line which is no longer in use is still connected to water well No. 5. Monaco said that line is undersized and needs to be abandoned. A new valve will allow the city crew to shut the line off more easily in the future instead of relying on the old valve.

The action came at an April 27 special meeting.
