Candidates seek seats on local councils

As of the noon Tuesday, June 1, deadline, several candidates had officially filed for election to open seats on the Ellsworth County’s two school boards and five city councils.

The names of these candidates will be on the Tuesday, Nov. 2, general election ballot. Candidates are:

City Councils

In Ellsworth, the seats of Mayor Mark Kennedy and council members Steve Magette and Tyler Renard are up for reelection. As of the deadline, Chris Rios and Dan Finnegan had filed for mayor, and Renard and Aaron Johnson had filed for a council seat.

In Wilson, Mayor Mike Peschka and council members Dan Taylor and David Criswell are up for re-election. As of the deadline, Peschka had filed for mayor and Taylor and Jeffery Keith had filed for council.

In Kanopolis, Mayor Anthony Hopkins and council members Greg Tripp and Rebekah Tripp are up for election. As of the deadline, Hopkins had filed for mayor and Rebekah Tripp had filed for council.

In Lorraine, two council members, Peter Solie and Joshua Visocsky and one vacant council seat are open. As of the deadline, Solie, Kash Travnichek and James Homolka had filed for council seats.

In Holyrood, three council members, Sharon Smith, Patrick Siemsen and Kenny Gieselman, are up for re-election. Only Smith had filed for a council seat by deadline.

School Boards

For the Ellsworth-Kanopolis-Geneseo USD 327 board of education, three board members, David Hand (District 1, Position 4), Peggy Svaty (District 3, Position 3), and Elizabeth Donley (District 3, Position 6) are up for re-election. As of the deadline, only Hand had filed for re-election.

For the Holyrood-based Central Plains USD 112 board of education, three board members, Tony Zink (District 6, rural Claflin), Jacob Charvat (District 2, Dorrance), and Tami Schepmann (District 4, Holyrood), face re-election.

As of the deadline, Roger L. Robinson of Wilson had filed for the District 2, Dorrance, seat; Allison Koch of Holyrood had filed for the District 4, Holyrood, seat; and Dalton R. Wirth of Ellinwood and Joni G. Zink of Bushton had each filed for the District 6, rural Claflin, seat.

ON TO THE VOTERS

• During the Tuesday, Nov. 2, general election registered Ellsworth County voters will decide who fills open seats on their city councils.

• Registered voters in Ellsworth and Rice counties will decide who sits on the USD 327 board of education.

• Registered voters in Ellsworth, Russell, Lincoln, Barton and Rice counties will decide who joins the USD 112 board of education.
