PYW FCE
Members of the Dorrance PYW FCE met March 22 at the home of Mary Lee Bohnen. Roll call was taken. Members in attendance were Mary Lee Bohnen, Rita Habbart, Betty Jo Lloyd, Donna Fay Major, Lori Reeves and Mary Ann Thill.
Minutes from the February 20 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given and approved.
Habbart reminded us of the NW Spring District Recognition Day April 12. Habbart and Lloyd plan to attend. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.
Bohnen gave the lesson on “Container Gardening” and invited Kristie Mader as a guest speaker. Containers come in different styles and sizes and can be made from clay, plastic, ceramic or wood. The only essential element is that the container must have drain holes.
Container soils need to be well-aerated and well-drained, yet still be able to retain moisture. You may want to add ingredients such as peat moss, vermiculite and perlite.
When choosing plants, most of the standard varieties of vegetables will grow well in containers, and the size of the container depends on the type of plants that are planted.
With no other business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be April 11 at Lloyd’s. The lesson “Someone’s Asking, How Can We Stretch Our Food Budget?” will be presented.
