Ellsworth VFW Auxiliary Post 6485
The Ellsworth VFW Auxiliary met April 19 with nine members and two guests.
The Auxiliary will begin playing bingo on the third Sunday of the month beginning May 21 at 2 p.m. at the VFW Post, 1006 W. 12th St., Ellsworth.
Two library books will be donated to Ellsworth Jr./Sr. High School and Kanopolis Middle School. “The Red Bandana” is the story of a young policeman in New York City who helped rescue people on Sept. 11, 2001. As a result, he died at age 24.
The deadline of June 1 was set for any birthday or anniversary changes or additions for the community calendar, which will be sold this fall.
The auxiliary voted to provide five Ellsworth County students with scholarships to continue their education.
We are selling tickets for a drawing of a red, white and blue quilt which was made and donated by an auxiliary member.
The charter was draped in memory of two members, Joyce Shriner and Della Ranker.
The District 4 meeting report was read. The state meeting will be held June 8-11 in Garden City.
A prayer was given for the VFW National Home for Children, which houses families of our veterans as they serve overseas.
Elections were conducted and the following will serve the next year: Gloria Marez, president; Connie Ranker, senior vice president; Connie Rodriguez, junior vice president; Sharon Haverkamp, guard; Peggy Weinhold, treasurer; and Teresa Shute, conductress and patriotic instructor. Joyce Weden and Kathryn Foran will serve as trustees.
Upcoming events: May 7, VFW fried bologna dinner fundraiser for the post home and June 17, VFW golf tournament.
Dates to hang our American flag are May 6-8, V-E Day declared in 1945; May 15, the Women’s Army Corps founded in 1942; May 21, Armed Forces Day; May 30, Memorial Day (observed).
The next meeting of the Ellsworth American Legion Auxiliary Post 6485 will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at the post home in Ellsworth. Sharon Haverkamp
