County appraiser updates officials
The Ellsworth County commissioners received an update from Carl Miller, county appraiser, at Monday’s weekly meeting.
Miller said he has mailed out property valuation notices and has had 23 informal hearings with property owners.
“They all went really well,” he said. In other business:
• Miller invited commissioners to view an informational Zoom webinar at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14. The webinar will be hosted by EagleView and is designed to show members of all county departments, city councils and first responders how to use Pictometery obilque aerial imagery.
• Miller said the county will have to review and approve information for an inter-local agreement for the new Neighborhood Revitalization Program which expires in December. Miller will take that information to local city councils and school boards for their review and consideration. The goal is to have a new plan ready by Jan. 1, 2022. “It will be pretty simple,” Miller said.
• No action was taken after a five-minute executive session with Miller to discuss (income) data relating to the financial affairs or trade secrets of a corporation.
• No action was taken after a 15-minute executive session with Dale Houston, county road and bridge superintendent, and Josh Beckman of Kirkham Michael & Associates, to preliminarily discuss the acquisition of real property near the Wilson river bridge.
• Rusty Varnado, Ellsworth City administrator, met again with commissioners regarding the Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative buildings directly south of the county courthouse.
It was noted the Ellsworth Coop has plans to purchase the buildings.
Both the county and the city are in need of additional space so Varnado and the commissioners plan to take a brief 30-minute tour of the former Radio Shack office building and the building directly to the east of the Radio Shack building at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 12. Varnado will call the Ellsworth Coop and Rolling Hills to make the arrangements. Varnado said he will bring the matter to the Ellsworth City Council during its April 12 meeting.
The next meeting of the Ellsworth County commissioners will be at 9 a.m. April 12, at the county courthouse.
