County to find secure solution for ballot counters

By
Alan Rusch

At Monday’s meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission, approval was given to spend $2,000 and have First Wireless repair the analog backup router for dispatch at the Ellsworth County Sheriff ’s Office, which is down. Sheriff Murray Marston said the funds for the repair router would be taken from his budget.

In other business:

• County Clerk and Elections Officer Shelly Vopat said new regulations from the state require the ballot counter to be placed in a secure area under lock and key. After discussing the matter with the commissioners, she was advised to call Doubrava Woodworking for a solution.

• The EMS debt card will remain active for now and the EMS credit card limit will be increased at the suggestion of the commissioners after Vopat said the county’s auditors don’t like the county using debit cards. She will talk to EMS director Nathan Florian about the matter in relation to the department’s memorial fund.

• Approval was given to Director of the Ellsworth County Emergency Management Keith Haberer to apply for the annual Kansas Department of Emergency Management performance grant.

The next meeting of the Ellsworth County Commission will be at 9 a.m. Monday, July 24, at the county courthouse.
